Intermediate/Advanced Pottery Wheel 2026

Intermediate pottery wheel classes will continue to build on skills you’ve learned in beginner’s pottery wheel classes. Topic classes are for students that are confidently able to center larger pieces (2lbs) consistently. These pottery wheel classes are for students who have taken at least one month long beginner’s pottery wheel class with us, or have the ability to confidently center 2lbs of clay and create even, 6-inch tall cylinders. If you have never taken classes with EPIC please email us before enrolling so that we can confirm this is the right class for you.

[SEPTEMBER] Form Language: What makes a good pot?

Dive deeper into the structure and aesthetics of your pots. Develop your design and critique skills. We’ll talk about the good, the wonky, and the exceptional while working on intentional pieces of our own! You may choose to focus on a shape such a vase, cup, bowl, or pouring vessel, for example.

[OCTOBER] Ghosts & Pumpkins: Throwing off the hump + closed forms

Learn how to throw “off the hump” while making decorative ghosts! We’ll also practice throwing closed forms and turning them into pumpkins.

[NOVEMBER] Teapots

Learn to make functional teapots on the wheel! We’ll practice throwing spouts, bodies and lids, as well as pulling larger handles.

[DECEMBER] Hand Warming Mugs

Take your mug game to the next level, just in time for winter. We’ll practice throwing efficient mug shapes and manipulating them into ergonomic, handless mugs with a pocket for your fingers!
